Comenius meeting: November 7th, a musical journey across the city

At last ! After several months of waiting, we were finally together again ! This time the European orchestra was in Vaulx-en-Velin, France, for its second concert. Everybody was happy to meet again and focused on the concert.

We have a lot to do !

Our Irish friends were our first spectators. They also went in classes to present their country and were involved in the lessons.

For the lunch, French teachers and parents had prepared a tasty buffet with French specialities and home-made food.

At the beginning of the afternoon, we went to the Lyon's city centre. We had a guided tour of the Lyon's opera. It was originally built in the XVIIIth century but it was reconstructed in the XIXth after it was destroyed by fire. Nevertheless, it faced a deep renovation from 1989 to 1993 made by the famous architect Jean Nouvel. Its work on the opera won an architectural prize. We managed to deal with the 18 levels of the buildings ! The view from the top, through the dancing rehearsals room was astonishing.

Afterwards, we had a walk in the city : Terreaux square, Croix-rousse slopes ... and a lot of stairs !!!!!

As we were exhausted, we had a deserved break in the traditional fun fair of the Croix-Rousse quarter.

After two hours of laughs and shouts (another kind of music...), we went to a little jazz club : la clef de voûte.
We had a private concert proposed by the saxophonist Thomas Ibanez accompanied by a pianist, a bassist and a drummer. It was amazing.
At the beginning of the 50th, Jazz was a very popular music in France and Paris was a major place for this music. Artists often produced in small underground clubs like this one.

As an end for this fantastic day, we went to La Meunière, a "bouchon" (a typical restaurant of Lyon). After appetizers, we had ten starters and 3 main courses : a very light meal actually ! We tried a huge range of the most famous local specialities such as the "quenelle", the chicken cooked in vinegar or the "saucisson" (a big hot sausage).
